Question: How long can I wipe over my footgear (khuff) with the excused person status?
Answer:
Bismi Llahir Rahmanir Rahim
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatuLlahi wa barakatuhu
A resident is permitted to wipe on footgear (khuffs) for a time period of 24 hours and a traveler may do so for 72 hours.
However, because the ablution (wudu) of the excused person is nullified with the exiting of the prayer time, the allotted time period may be different for the excused person.
If the excuse is active while the excused person is either making wudu, or putting on the footgear, or both, then the wiping is only valid until that prayer time exits.
If the excuse is inactive while the excused person is making wudu AND putting on the footgear, the wiping is valid for 24 hours for a resident and 72 hours for a traveler.
